Can I bring my personal items with me?

Yes, but we recommend using a waterproof bag for electronics. We are not responsible for your personal items.

What is the water like?

The water is very calm throughout the year. Our kayak and paddle board trail is a 2-3 mile estuary comprised of brackish water and lined with three different types of mangrove trees (Red, Black, and White).

What kind of wildlife will we see?

During mating seasons it is common (but not promised) to see manatees, dolphins, lots of fish, and many varieties of birds and sea life. You may find seahorses, conches, rays, starfish, iguanas, sea otters, etc. Any jumping fish you see are called mullet, a common herbivore fish. There are NO alligators in saltwater. There are also NO saltwater crocodiles.

Am I allowed to fish?

Yes, you may bring your personal gear and bait along for the ride. It’s common to see tarpon, redfish, snook, trout, and mangrove snapper.

Can we pet manatees?

No, please keep a respectful distance from these highly protected animals. They are friendly and may approach your vessel while paddling. Manatees are active and commonly found in our trail between February-November, usually near warmer water.

Is the water shallow enough to stand in?

There are shallow areas near launching areas that you may step in. Be mindful of sharp oysters while barefoot.

Do I need to wear a life vest while paddling?

One life vest per person must be on the watercraft (kayak and paddle board). Use caution and beware water can be deep in many areas.

What is the water trail like?

From your starting point at the shore, you will turn left and follow the signs, numbered 2-18, which line the self-guided trail. The trail is very easy to follow and best described as “L” shaped. The island to the north indicates the outer boundary and the numbers will end. Most of the trail runs North and South so we recommend paddling the edges during any high winds.
